Introduction:

Enjoy a privately guided tour of the World Heritage UNESCO sights in Romania and Bulgaria. This tour is designed to visit the most important monuments of both countries marked as marking a significance in mankind. This is a perfect tour to experience the diversity of cultures in both Romania and Bulgaria.
Starting off in Romania we head for the historic Transylvania. In Transylvania we will visit the medieval Saxon towns of Brasov, Cluj, Sighisoara - an inhabited citadel, and Sibiu - Europe Culture Capital of 2007. Also we will stop to visit some of the famous fortresses, such as Bran Castle, Peles Palace and Biertan Fortified Church.
After we head Northern Romania... You will have the opportunity to experience the land and ancient traditions of Maramures. Here in some villages life has changed very little in the past 100 years. Maramures has some of the most exquisite churches made from wood. Barsana Monastery is the tallest wooden building in Europe. Also in Maramures is the Merry Cemetery of Sapanta with its colorful grave stones with cartoon captures of the persons' life.
Then onto Bucovina to discover the painted Monasteries, the frescos are like mini-Sistine chapels in the mountains. We will visit the main 4 monasteries; Humor, Sucevita, Moldovita and Vornet founded by Stephen the Great. While in Bucovina we will stay at traditional guesthouses famous for their traditional home cooked meals.
Then we go to Bulgaria to meet your next local guide who will take you on a journey through his home country. First stop on this tour; Veliko Turnovo - the ancient capital of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom, picturesquely situated on the hills at the banks of the meandering river Jantra. Visit the medieval fortress of Tsarevets hill and of Samovodska charshiya - handy craft street.
Next we go to Plovdiv via Shipka Pass. On the way we will stop to visit the Outdoor ethnographic museum Etura with its 18th -19th C. crafts. In Plovdiv take a Walk in the old part of the town to see beautiful old houses from the Bulgarian Revival period, St. Konstantin and Elena church and Roman Theatre.
From Sofia we go to Rila Monastery, an impressive large complex in nature located in the Rila Mountains. Rila Monastery is the largest and one of the oldest in Bulgaria, it holds high cultural value to the country. Then we will visit Boyana Church, located on the foot of the Vistosha Mountains. Boyana Church has well preserved paintings from the middle ages Bulgaria.
